This is one of Z's favorite meals.
It is easy, makes great leftovers (reheats really well), and is so versatile in that you can use just about any kind of meat, add veggies....the rules are very bendable with this meal.
Oh! And its super yummy!
You will need:
1 onion copped
1-2 (or more) cloves of garlic minced
Veggies of choice
(carrots, mushrooms, zucchini, mixed veggies...the only one I wouldn't use is potato)
Meat of choice
(smoked dried meat, chicken pieces, pork cuts, meat balls)
1-2 teaspoons of paprika
Salt and pepper to taste
Flour/water mixture to thicken sauce
1-2 bay leaves (optional)
In a pan with a moderate amount of oil, spoon out as much sauerkraut as you desire (at least 2 cups). I am using homemade kraut made by my mother-in-law...second to none!
Saute for several minutes, adding onion and garlic.
Add enough water to barely cover and steam for 5-10 minutes.
Add meat, veggies, and seasonings and continue too cook, adding water as needed.
Cook until kraut and veegies are soft and meat is cooked and tender.
thicken sauce slightly.
Serve over mashed potatoes.
Side dish: steamed veggies
