Croatia - Our Beautiful Homeland & Weekend Link-Up Party

It's hard to believe that I have lived here for 8 years!  They have gone by so quickly and I have had the privilege to see much of the country.  There are parts I've yet to see, but here is a small glimpse into Croatia.

And I do mean small.  I chose just a few of the cities I've visited to give you an idea of the lovely nature and rich history of Croatia.  This is very much a bird's-eye view.

After which I'm sure you'll call your travel agent and book next year's vacation to see Croatia's lovely Adriatic coast, right?

At the fortress in Knin

Opatija

Zadar

St. Donat's Church in the Roman Forum

Altars used for blood sacrifices before the time of Christ - located on the Roman Forum

An indent on the floor of the Roman Forum where the blood would flow from the sacrifices

"Pillar of Shame" or a flogging post from the Roman Era

Trogir

Trogir is one of my most favorite locations.  The history is so well preserved

I had to throw this one in!

Kamerlengo Castle from the 15th Century

Split

Diocletian built a huge palace in Split in preparation for his retirement in 305 A.D.

A view from behind the palace

Wonderful pictures. Please forgive me, I'm geographically challenged in a big way ... but I didn't realize Croatia was so filled with Christian history as in altars for sacrifice. How awesome is that!!??

I left my heart in Italy this spring, and your photos make my yearning to go back even stronger. I know that God has a purpose for why my family's currently still working here in the tropics, and I am content, but oh what joy I'll have when He calls us back to Italy. Your pictures are great. I think you've really opened up our eyes to what Croatia looks like, as I doubt I'm the only one who's never visited.

Oh, I hear you!!! Italy and Croatia are neighbors. :)

Not a problem. Yes - Croatia was part of the Roman Empire - there is rumor that Paul traveled here during his missionary journeys.

I have never been to your beautiful country but many people from my home country Sweden like to go to Croatia.

I wish to see it one day. I met many people from your country back home when I lived in Europe.

:) Ahhhh - I know we'd find TON of stuff to chat about - for hours and hours. You'll definitely have to make a trip over.

Unfortunately it doesn't. Right now it's pretty chilly. It gets below freezing winter and we always get snow. Maybe I'll do some snow pictures this winter, too. :)

Oh yes - I see a lot of license plates from Sweden! :) I hope you are able to make it over some time. I know you'd enjoy it! Have a great weekend!
