It seems as if Christmas and music go hand-in-hand. It is as if it has it's own sound.
I love it that at this time of year songs like Joy To The World are played everywhere. Think about those words:
Yea, Lord, we greet thee,
Born this happy morning,
Jesus, to thee be all glory given.
Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing:
or
No more let sins and sorrows grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found,
He rules the world with truth and grace
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness
And wonders of His love
I am often reduced to tears while contemplating the depth of some of these old hymns.
One of the things that I like most about them is that the message doesn't stop with Jesus in the manger. I fear that sometimes at Christmastime we get so caught up with worshiping Baby Jesus and fail to remember the rest of the story. Baby Jesus didn't die on the cross for our sins and raise from the dead. And Baby Jesus will not return one day as our glorious conquering King.
So as we adore Him this season, take some time to adore King Jesus.
Sing songs of worship to Him, not just about Him or about what He has done for you.
Sing old and new hymns and contemplate the depth of their message.
Sing simple praise choruses.
And fill your heart and your home with praise as you take time to adore your KING!

Well a hearty amen to your post!!!
Oh, thank you so much! You are so encouraging to me!
So true! The baby is often where we stop....yet His life didn't stop there.....I love old hymns and being in a more modern church, I really miss them sometimes. :( Love ya!
I do to, a lot of times. I love how a lot of worship leaders are starting to do more hymns. I love the new choruses they add, too. Like Chris Tomlin's Amazing Grace.
Yes! :) New isn't always bad, just different ;)
